The proposed extension was part of a larger project to create open plan ‘Florida style’ living to the ground floor by removing the rear wall of the property and the internal wall between the lounge and what was the dining room. The result was a connected living space of three zones comprising TV room, dining, and, garden room with aluminium bi-fold doors offering an outdoor lifestyle for socialising with friends & family. Provision of a single access door to the side avoids the need to routinely use the bi-fold doors. The finishing touch was to incorporate blinds inside the glass sealed units, the perfect solution for controlling privacy and excessive sunlight.

The existing garage wall was extended with a section of parapet wall to form a neat junction between the tiled roof and flat roof of the Orangery. This detailed solution was one factor in satisfying our clients concern about the final aesthetic and quality of finish. Due to the poor ground conditions associated with this area a piled foundation with reinforced ring beam, and block & beam floor was used in the construction.
