Bespoke Cabin Installation – Billericay

Case Study

Product Info

Most people are familiar with the standardised offering of log cabin designs specified to meet the needs for general purpose leisure or storage use of which we have an extensive range available at our show site, however often the requirements must be tailored to ensure it is fit for purpose as say a home office, gym, or pool building and therefore of bespoke design with significant upgrading being necessary in areas such as foundations, structural integrity, insulation, built in facilities etc.

In order to offer a bespoke service we have established relationships with the best, quality Northern European manufacturers who specialise in one off production from small cabins to full residential homes in a range of log sizes up to 100mm.

Everything is open to customisation from the roof type (felt, shingles, or tiles), windows & doors (timber, PVCu, Aluminium), floor type (timber, tiling, vinyl), interior finish (natural logs or lined & plastered) – the list is endless!

The Brief

Our client has a large garden acreage to the rear of the property which was underutilised and the idea was to create a self contained retreat independent of the house for relaxation, entertainment, and socialising all year round.

An important part of the design was a gym facility with separate toilet & shower for convenience that required the installation of a specialised macerating waste system linked to the main foul water drains at the property.

The main space was designed to be large enough to accommodate gaming such as table top football, and table tennis with plenty of seating to view the wall mounted TV.

Design Notes

The footprint of the cabin totalled an area of 60m² and as such required building regulation approval necessitating substantial reinforced concrete raft foundations.

The cabin walls were constructed in 70mm logs and 120mm heavy timber ‘feature’ beams used for the roof structure.

All windows & doors were double glazed and the floor screed incorporated insulating material which with a comprehensive heating & ventilation solution created a very energy efficient and comfortable building.

To blend the building with the rural setting the roof was clad in the best quality Canadian cedar shingles.
